4 Things to Know about Academic Rigor at Compass Charter Schools

By March 15, 2023 Blog

At Compass Charter Schools (Compass), we believe that every scholar has the ability to rise and soar like a Firebird in their academic journey. In our tuition-free TK-12 public schools serving Los Angeles, San Diego, Yolo, and surrounding counties, we are committed to providing a personalized learning experience that caters to each scholar’s unique needs and interests.

What does academic rigor mean at Compass?

Collaborative Virtual Learning Community

At Compass, every scholar has the potential to achieve greatness using their own learning strengths. Our vision is to create a collaborative virtual learning community, inspiring scholars to appreciate the ways in which arts and sciences nurture a curiosity for life-long learning. With over 11 years of experience, this vision is made a reality with every scholar we graduate.

We are proud of our virtual school and the quality program we provide. Digital tools allow us to enhance our scholars’ learning, communication, and the relationships we build with each other. It’s important to us that we additionally foster teamwork and build in-person communities with a variety of enrichment events, workshops, and field trips.

Our academically rigorous Options (home study) and Online learning programs are built to develop our scholars’ love for self-directed learning. Parents, whom we call Learning Coaches, choose which of our approved curricula best matches their scholars’ learning styles. All of our vendors provide curricula that are designed to challenge and encourage scholars to think critically, solve problems, and develop a deep understanding of the subjects they study.

Gold Standard in Personalized Learning

We are the Gold Standard for Personalized Learning. Our approach allows teachers and learning coaches to meet each scholar where they are. Scholars work at their own pace and receive individualized support from their teachers, learning coaches, and the entire scholar support staff at Compass. Scholars who need more time to master a concept can take it, while those who are ready to advance can do so without feeling held back.

In-House Scholar Support

We are committed to supporting our scholars every step of the way with the utmost integrity. Providing individualized attention, incorporating AVID strategies school wide, offering in-house tutors and counseling services, and overseeing scholar-led clubs in fields of interest, are all part of our substantive scholar support. This helps us carry out our mission to inspire and develop innovative, creative, self-directed learners, one scholar at a time.
