Compass Charter Schools is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. Scholars are nominated by their Supervising Teachers (ST) and staff. The program also ties into the Compass core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Online Scholars

Elena I., 2nd
Elena is a joy to have as a scholar! She is hard-working and stays on task, progressing through the Accelerate Education curriculum with confidence. Elena is a strong reader and is performing at or above grade level in all subjects. Elena attends Learning Lab regularly and actively participates. Seeing her big smile and wave when she enters the classroom always makes me smile. Elena is eager to learn! She embodies and represents all of our Compass core values of Achievement, Respect, Teamwork, Integrity and Communication. I am so proud of you, Elena!

Karli K., 8th
Each day, Karli shows a strong commitment to being a successful scholar. She communicates thoughtfully and engages positively. In Learning Labs, she leads with kindness and contributes meaningfully to group tasks. Her responses reflect a clear understanding of the material.

Marcello G., 12th
Marcello is the definition of consistency. For his entire high school career, this scholar has been prepared, responsive, respectful, and committed to progressing at all times. He expresses a level of a humility that is admirable and serves as an excellent example for his peers. Marcello is on pace for another outstanding finish to the semester, and it is a pleasure to be his teacher.

McKenna R., 2nd
McKenna is a very smart scholar who has a positive attitude and wants to always do her personal best! McKenna comes to class, prepared and ready to learn. While in class, she is engaged and volunteers to read. McKenna is kind and respectful to her classmates. She also works hard on her assignments and shows wonderful character qualities. I am so grateful to have McKenna as one of my 1st grade scholars this school year. Congratulations, McKenna, and keep up the fantastic work!

Xavier S., 8th
Xavier has worked hard to become a successful online scholar. He attends his live sessions and participates in his labs. He works long hours to turn his assignments in by the due dates. He has a strong support system and has the skills to be successful.

Bodhi H., 4th
Bodhi is kind, funny and responsible. He actively participates in learning lab and is a wonderful example to his classmates. Bodhi excels in all subject areas and often goes above and beyond on his assignments and projects. Bodhi is a joy to have as a scholar and I am so proud of him!

She has submitted quality work and is pleasant to work with. She attends her labs and has become an amazing online scholar. Even with the challenges she had when she first started at Compass, she has become an amazing scholar.
Options Scholars

Grant K., 1st
Grant is a bright and enthusiastic kindergartener who is such a joy to work with! He is always happy and eager to share his learning, he is very kind and respectful, and he is excelling academically, working above grade level in all areas. I am so proud of his hard work and positive attitude—keep up the amazing work!

Aaron R., 8th

She has managed to complete and submit her work on time, showcasing her determination and strength in overcoming adversity. Kendrick Y., 12th
Kenny exemplifies the Compass value of respectfulness. He consistently uses polite language, including phrases like please, thank you, and sorry when he misses something. Kenny takes ownership of his responsibilities by completing his assignments, submitting his work on time, and participating in connection meetings. He demonstrates personal integrity and has developed self-reliance. Additionally, he is proactive in preparing for adulthood and planning for his future.

Azalea E., 1st
Azalea works hard every day to meet her learning goals. Azalea is patient, kind towards others, and always demonstrates respect. Azalea is a helpful big sister and models good behavior during her live sync classes. Azalea is learning how to read and tries her best in reading every day. Keep up the great work, Azalea!

Olivia O., 8th
Olivia has demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities and a strong sense of independence, particularly in light of her recent car accident. Despite the challenges she faced, she has shown resilience by successfully submitting her assignments on time.
Her ability to articulate her learning during class connections has been impressive, allowing her to communicate well. This skill not only highlights her understanding of the material but also showcases her achievements in navigating difficult situations. Olivia's commitment to her education and her ability to persevere through adversity serve as an inspiring example.

Alejandro G., 12th
I have had the honor of serving as Alejandro's supervising teacher for the past six years. As he approaches graduation, my pride in his accomplishments at Compass has never been greater. Alejandro has truly evolved into a self-directed learner during his time at CCS.
I have witnessed him gradually take on more responsibility for his own education and success, and it has been a privilege to support and cheer him on throughout this journey. I am filled with pride as he completes his high school courses ahead of schedule!
Furthermore, Alejandro is a multilingual scholar, excelling in academic work in two languages with equal proficiency. I know that you prefer to stay out of the spotlight, Alejandro, but I am eagerly looking forward to celebrating your achievements as you cross the stage at the San Diego graduation ceremony in June!

Adelene B., 4th
Adelene always goes beyond her required work. She is working on standards for two grade levels. She is motivated to learn beyond the requirements. She excels in academic content and she enjoys the arts. She writes poetry, plays the violin, and is often painting art pieces. When I meet with Adelene, she is anxious to share her work, always with a pleasant smile and good conversation. She is proud of her scholastic success.

Freyja H., 8th
Freyja is an amazing scholar. She is an extremely talented artist. Her love for books also makes her an exceptional reader. Frejya is motivated to learn concepts beyond the basics and takes great pride in her work. She is skilled at thinking outside of the box and is always polite and patient. She is very creative and it has been so wonderful to see her thrive this year! Keep up the wonderful work, Freyja, and thank you for sharing your talent with us!

Tallulah W., 11th
Tallulah is a highly motivated scholar who consistently works on all of her courses both in the Options and AE courses. She produces excellent work each learning period and never fails to amaze me on the lessons that she had been working on. She is respectful and polite each time I meet with her. Hassan I., 4th
Hassan is a wonderful scholar who is new to Compass just this semester! He jumped into both learning lab and his curriculum with a passion for learning. He actively participates and excels in all of his course work. I am so proud of all he has accomplished and can't wait to continue to see him grow here at Compass. Great job, Hassan!

Ian B., 7th
Ian strives to be a good student each day. He uses good communication in our interactions. He collaborates effectively in Labs and shows understanding in how he responds to questions. His work is exceptional, and he tries to correct errors and strives to master the grade level content when submitting work.

Alyssa V., 11th
Alyssa has initiative and is always looking for ways to improve her academic performance. She is also an active participant in Learning Labs!

Cullen M., 4th
Cullen is an amazing scholar who loves to read and has a knack for puzzles. You should see this kid solve a rubik's cube! Cullen has worked hard this semester on not only completing his work, but also on time management and it shows. He is staying up to date with submitting assignments and is exceling in all areas. He consistently attends learning lab and participates. I am so proud of his growth and responsibility!

Emalyn T., 8th
Emalyn is goal-oriented, determined, and a hard worker. She does an impressive job of balancing her school and academics with her interests outside of school. She is taking French 2 as an 8th grader and doing an excellent job.

Ben is funny, creative and hard-working. He often will extend his learning by researching topics he finds interesting and conducts experiments on his own. Ben is a leader in our class and actively participates in learning lab. He has shown so much growth in reading over this 3rd grade year and I am so proud of him. Ari is a new scholar at Compass, but is off to a great start! She is motivated, determined, and kind. She is doing a fantastic job in 8th grade Math as a 7th grade scholar.

Charlotte C., 3rd
Charlie is an example of excellence, not only has she grown multiple levels in reading this school year she also excelling in math. Charlie is also kind and compassionate and is a friend to all she meets. Charlie is brave and doesn't let anything from stopping her try something if its a new ride she's never tried, or an experience she's never done, she is brave and goes for it! She is a leader in her communities, and she makes friends with ease. She is a ``Gold Standard`` scholar!

Lucas G., 8th
Lucas is a wonderful scholar and it is always a joy hearing about his learning and progress! He has a huge interest in biology and animal science and is always eager to showcase his new discoveries. Lucas recently spent a great deal of time researching Japan and was able to present his findings at a local homeschool event. His project included information about the art, geopgraphy, population, key industries, languge and food of the country. Lucas even learned how to make sushi and practiced his hand at oragami. Another highlight from the last learning period is seeing the advancement of Lucas's writing skills. He shared an expository essay written on Issac Newton, highlighting key events in Newton's life and contributions to society. Lucas is definitely a gold standard scholar!

Kimberly T., 10th
Kimberly has done such an incredible positive transformation in the past month. She has really made tremendous improvement in all of her classes as well as in her STAR benchmark assessments. She is very kind, diligent, hard working, respectful and puts in a lot of effort into her work. She is always open to constructive feedback and has such a great attitude and work ethic. She is always responsive and consistently attends her weekly meetings and tutoring sessions. Kimberly is a true example that when she is given the motivation, support and encouragement, hard work and effort truly pays off.

Rosalee B., 5th
Rosalee is a diligent and creative scholar and she tries her best in everything she does. She likes working on challenging Math activities, and continues to hone her writing and readings skills. She also loves to draw, sketch, color and paint for her art projects. On top of these, she is learning how to play the piano. She is also a loving and caring older sister to her two siblings. Hannah F., 8th
Hannah is an amazing person and scholar. She always does her best and genuinely cares about being respectful and honest in all she does. She follows directions and fulfills all her requirements without complaining and puts in her best effort, even when she may struggle with something. Hannah is a wonderful example for her peers and is a pleasure to know as a scholar.

Hana S., 11th
Hana Seal is an exceptional scholar who demonstrates the highest levels of achievement in her academics, in ballet, and in music. She is a strong advocate for herself, and is a pleasure to support. Hana is a detail-oriented person. I love reading her essays, which are carefully crafted, engaging, and show her unique perspective on topics studied. I would like to celebrate Hana's hard work and dedication by nominating her for scholar of the month. Way to go Hana!
