Come join fellow 7th to 9th grade scholars at the Catalina Island Marine Institute! The Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) is an overnight field trip program which focuses on marine biology and island ecology. Classes include invertebrate, shark, and algae touch tanks plus snorkeling, oceanography, kayaking, and squid dissection.

Dates: *Postponed* Original Date – Monday, October 16th at 8:30am to Wednesday, October 18th at 3:30pm
Location: Please plan to pick up and drop off your scholar at the Catalina Classic Ferry in Long Beach.
Cost: $130 per scholar (normally $260 but CCS is subsidizing the scholar’s cost)
Grade Levels: 7th, 8th & 9th

The scholar’s cost to go on this overnight field trip is $130.00 USD per scholar, which includes the ferry ride to and from Long Beach and Catalina Island, as well as three (3) meals a day, all snorkeling equipment, 3-piece wetsuits, and wall climbing equipment. Meals included are dinner on the first day, all three meals on the second day, and breakfast with a sack lunch on the last day.

Scholars will need to bring bedding such as a sleeping bag and pillow or sheets and blanket. Electronics, jewelry and expensive items should stay at home. There will be lots of dirt and dust so we do not recommend bringing any electronics on this field trip.

To reserve your scholar’s spot on this field trip – please register by Thursday, August 31 with a $40.00 deposit through the at the link below. The $40 deposit will go towards the scholar’s total cost. The second and final payment will by $90.

The registration form includes a permission slip for scholars and guests under the age of 18 and if applicable, pre-payment options for attending adults and guests. CCS does not want financial situations to be an obstacle for families to attend our events. If your scholar is unable to attend due to financial difficulty, please reach out to Rebecca MacAlpine at rmacalpine@compasscharters.org.

In the event that we do not have at least 15 scholars sign up to attend, this event will be cancelled due to Catalina Island Marine Institute restrictions and policies. If this happens, all deposits will be refunded.
