Preparing for College & Career at Compass Charter Schools

By March 8, 2023 Blog

All scholars at Compass Charter Schools (Compass) are in some way preparing for college or career readiness, regardless of grade. Compass Personalized Learning Programs offer our families many opportunities to develop independent life-long learners with academic, social, and emotional success. And always tuition-free!

The Gold Standard in Personalized Learning

Compass is a tuition-free public TK-12 school celebrating over 11 years of establishing the gold standard for a school outside brick-and-mortar spaces. We serve Los Angeles, San Diego, Yolo (NorCal), and surrounding counties. Through our Options (home study) and Online Learning Programs, we meet scholars where they are and personalize their curriculum to meet their needs. As a result, our scholars learn how to navigate their individual learning journey, manage a flexible schedule, and utilize support – skills much required for college and career.

AVID School-wide

Compass is one of few Personalized Learning schools nationwide to implement AVID (Advancement via Independent Determination) strategies schoolwide, regardless of grade. We’re also a certified AVID site for our high school elective course. AVID’s career and college readiness program provides support for teachers, families, and scholars to utilize the best practices in WICOR: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading.

Breaking socioeconomic barriers and embracing equity, this program paves the way to college for every participating scholar. 90% of AVID seniors who apply to a four-year college are accepted, and 84% who enroll pursue their second year.

Scholar-led Clubs

Compass scholar-led clubs encourage leadership and connection for scholars in every grade. Club “members” regularly meet in groups of similar interests, from World Languages to LGBTQ+ club. We believe these clubs help our scholars practice collaboration skills, build social networks, and develop communication and organization skills that are beneficial on a resume and throughout life.

Enrichment Activities

Virtual Scholar Workshops focus on topics of interest to our scholars, including arts and sciences, college and career preparation, community service projects, and other special events. Providing enrichment opportunities exposes our scholars to unique experiences that enhance their knowledge while developing new passions and skills. Through these workshops, our scholars explore and discover new perspectives of the world they live in. Monthly contests are another great way for scholars to virtually participate in enrichment.

Ultimately, at Compass, we support our scholars in their quests for futures that are full of opportunity. Every age scholar prepares for their life goals with skills such as time management, handling academic pressure, and building healthy relationships. Does your scholar need support in their big dreams? Navigate your way to Compass. We’re enrolling today!
