Online Learning: Samantha Herrod’s Parent View

By September 21, 2022 Blog

Welcome to the school year 2002-23 at Compass Charter School’s Online Learning Program (Compass Online). We are the Gold Standard in Virtual Education in free public schools for scholars K-12 in Los Angeles, San Diego, Yolo, and surrounding counties.

Part of our gold standard includes supporting and developing strong learning coach (parent/guardian) relationships. We are proud to introduce you to one of our new school board members, Samantha Herrod, whose scholar, Avery Stansbury, has attended Compass Online for eight going on nine years. We asked her a few questions to share her enthusiasm for Compass Online, as well as her roles as a learning coach and board member.

Why did you choose Compass Online for your scholar’s education?

I chose Compass Online because I saw the online program as an opportunity not just for my scholar but also for us to experience a multifaceted learning environment. To have immediate access to a curriculum that allows flexibility and convenience is priceless. It allows my scholar to work at his own level and pace.

What has your experience been like with Compass Online? How are you supported as a learning coach, and why does that matter?

My experience with the online program has been wonderful. I am supported on a vast level, which is important to me in knowing that my scholar has all he needs in order to succeed.

You are now a member of the board. Congratulations! How is this important to you, and what do you hope to accomplish over the next year?

It is definitely an honor to be a part of the board as a parent representative. This is important to me because I feel like my dedication and involvement with the school have been recognized and acknowledged. Over the next year, I hope to become more versed in my role as a parent representative and continue to support the school in any capacity needed. I also want to help this institution to continue to thrive and grow more as a whole.

What else would you like to tell prospective learning coaches about your experiences with Compass Online?

I would like to tell prospective learning coaches that my experience with Compass Online has been rewarding and gratifying. It has given me the opportunity to allow my scholar to flourish and thrive in his aspirations and dreams. It has also given me a chance to remember some of mine.

Thank you, Ms. Herrod! We are excited to have you on the board as a parent representative and look forward to all of your insight and ideas. We’re confident that this year is going to be the best school year yet.
