Join us in Celebrating School Board Recognition Month!

January is a great time to celebrate Compass Charter Schools (CCS) hard-working board members and the important role that they play in our communities and schools. Although showing appreciation is a year-round process, taking advantage of School Board Recognition Month assures that these important people receive some of the thanks they deserve! The theme this year is Launching the Next Generation. We truly believe that we are launching incredible scholars at CCS!

CCS celebrates our community volunteers who dedicate countless hours and resources to ensure quality education is available for scholars. The current Board of Directors consists of community leaders who are passionate about public education. The directors are John Vargas, board chair; Matt Brown, board secretary, Bill Dennett, board treasurer; Lisa Robotham, board member, and parent representative; Cori Brooks, board member; and Martin Suarez, board member.

“From my standpoint, I think that Compass is the Gold Standard because it has both Options and Online choices for families,” shared Robotham, It has amazing teachers and a great special education program. Parents and scholars are listened to at Compass.”

Currently, school board members face unique challenges and changes. They are tasked with the responsibility of making tough decisions with limited budgets while continuing to provide quality education for scholars. “CCS is proud to celebrate National Board Recognition Month and is truly grateful for each of our board members,” said J.J. Lewis, CCS Superintendent & CEO. “Our Board shows continued dedication to ensuring consistent growth of our educational programs and services to best support our scholars and their families. On behalf of the entire CCS community, I would like to express our most sincere appreciation to John, Matt, Bill, Lisa, Cori, and Martin for their continued dedication and service to Compass.”

Our CCS School Board Members follow National Board Recognition’s guidelines and:

  • meet the diverse educational needs of all children and to empower them to become competent, productive contributors to a democratic society and an ever-changing world; and
  • are committed to children and believe that all children can be successful learners and that the best education is tailored to the individual needs of the child; and
  • work closely with parents, educational professionals, and other community members to create the educational vision we want for our students; and
  • are responsible for ensuring the structure that provides a solid foundation for our school system;

Our mission is to inspire and develop innovative, creative, self-directed learners, one scholar at a time. Our board does an excellent job of helping to launch our scholars into the next generation of success!
