J.J. Lewis Awarded the 2022 APLUS+ Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement

Thousand Oaks, CA Compass Charter Schools is thrilled to announce that Superintendent & CEO, J.J. Lewis, will be one of the 2022 APLUS+ Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement awardees for his extensive contributions to the personalized learning model and movement. 

The APLUS+ Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement will be presented to Lewis today, Thursday, October 19, during the 20th Annual APLUS+ Network Conference in San Diego. The award recognizes education leaders who have consistently been trailblazers and advocates for personalized learning programs and experiences. 

“Congratulations to J.J. Lewis for receiving a 2022 APLUS+ Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement,” shared Jeff Rice, Founder/Director of the Association of Personalized Learning Schools and Services. “He has been an exemplary leader in our Personalized Learning movement and will definitely be missed. Working with him over these past several years has been an honor and joy. We appreciate the wonderful contributions to the Personalized Learning model and movement that he has made during his tenure at Compass.”

Lewis has been the Superintendent & CEO of Compass since October 2015 and announced his departure earlier this year. During his time at Compass, he has led a transformation of the school and created many opportunities for the community in the virtual environment. Some of these opportunities include creating the Scholar Leadership Council, Parent Town Halls, and Coffee with Compass. He has also encouraged collaboration between peer personalized learning public charter schools, such as creating Professional Learning Networks to collaborate with role-alike peers across the state.

Compass is a member of APLUS+ and embraces the personalized learning model to provide a quality educational experience for its scholars. Lewis is recognized for his influence and advocacy for public charter schools, the personalized learning model, and his leadership at Compass.

“I am truly humbled to receive the APLUS+ Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement,” shares Lewis. “I have been a passionate supporter of the personalized learning model and movement and have been honored to have been granted the opportunity to serve as the leader of Compass Charter Schools for the past seven years. I am elated to be recognized as a contributor and leader in the personalized learning movement. I look forward to watching the impact of Compass and personalized learning as I write my next chapter back home in Michigan.”
