Compass Charter Schools Names their September 2022 Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the Compass core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Harlow K. of Burbank

“Harlow is such an enthusiastic young girl. Her writing and excitement for her educational goals are growing at such a rapid rate. It is exciting to witness such growth in such a short amount of time.” -Katie Hooper, Elementary School Teacher

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Liam M. of Los Angeles

“Liam is a pleasure to work with and has made strong academic progress in the last year. Each time I meet with him for a connection meeting, he spends 15 to 20 minutes reading his favorite book to me. He reads with great enthusiasm and even does character voices, making it fun for me to listen to him. Liam just scored in the “at or above 40” category on his STAR Reading. He is making significant progress, and I believe he is exhibiting our Compass Artic values in the process!” ~Shannon Fowler, Supervising Teacher

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Elizabeth C. of Simi Valley

“8-grade language arts and math are challenging and a lot of work. Elizabeth has made an amazing effort to keep up and complete difficult assignments.” ~Sophie Samson, Online Middle School Teacher

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Ciara M.of Yucca Valley

“Ciara is just a joy and light to everyone’s day. She is respectful, animated, and enthusiastic at all our meetings. I enjoy all her creativity in her schoolwork and cannot wait to see what this year brings.” ~Jenna Morales, Supervising Teacher

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Vivian B. of Mission Hills

“Vivian is a passionate learner who enjoys stretching her brain by exploring new and challenging material. She is thoughtful with her words and kind. Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Justin W. of Anaheim

“Justin is a hard worker and consistently demonstrates achievement across all subject areas. He is making great strides in reading independently and working above his math grade level. At the OCLC, he frequently participates in science and social studies classes and always works well with his peers. On top of all of this, he studies Mandarin and Spanish, too! Justin is a high-achieving, well-rounded, hard-working scholar.” ~Morgan Kohler, Supervising Teacher

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Rebekah S. of Chula Vista

“Rebecca is excelling in both math and language arts, both of which are challenging classes. “Micah strives to reach his full potential. He is committed to doing his best, seeks new challenges, and takes responsibility for his learning. Micah is always honest, can be counted on to recount information when asked, and is always considerate when interacting with his teachers. Micah enjoys explaining projects he is working on in school. He displays and talks about personal items from home when they relate to topics of study. He provides background knowledge about topics of particular interest to him and enjoys telling his teaching about them. He also has an impressive understanding and depth of knowledge about his interests. Keep up the great work!!” ~Laura Harvey, Supervising Teacher

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Grace N. of Laguna Niguel

“Grace is a well-rounded young person who puts her best into everything she does. She works hard to achieve academically, takes up new interests with passion, sets new goals, pursues excellence in reaching them, and still makes time to have fun and be a good friend. During our live instruction time, Grace’s input is always full of wisdom and kindness. She is warm, friendly, and personable, models integrity, and is a role model for her younger peers. This year, she is getting work experience and planning to start taking concurrent enrollment courses to get her college career started; she wants to join the National Honor Society and is learning electric guitar and American sign language. I’m proud to nominate Grace for a scholar of the month!” ~Abigail Terrell, Supervising Teacher

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Noah S. of Walnut Creek

“Noah is a hard-working and respectful scholar who always tries his best! He attends TK Morning Meet-Up every day, and he always is an active participant! He is polite and helpful in class and our tech-emoji guru, always cheering on his friends using zoom tools! He takes pride in his work and never stops learning!” ~Melissa Collier, Supervising Teacher

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Leslie P. of Antioch

“This is only Leslie’s second year at Compass, and she is doing a great job this year. She works hard to improve her skills and complete her assignments and has ambitious but attainable goals for high school.” ~Sophie Samson, Online Middle School Teacher

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Gabriel M. of Novato

“Gabriel does an amazing job balancing his education with his gymnastics schedule. He prioritizes hours in the day for his studies and gymnastics, making sure to put in 100% for both. I am so proud of him for all he accomplishes.” ~Jenna Morales, Supervising Teacher

Sabur goes above and beyond with all his lessons, finding ways to connect them to real-world situations and challenging himself past the learning.
