Compass Charter Schools Names Their
September 2021 Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the Compass core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Harlow K. of Burbank 

“Harlow exemplifies what it means to be an ARTIC scholar, shares Joyce Popelar, elementary school teacher. “She is a hard-working scholar who actively participates and attends our live synchronous sessions. Harlow comes prepared with the necessary materials and completes all activities set forth. She is achieving in the Accelerate Ed curriculum and a joy to have in my class! Harlow is a wonderful scholar and encompasses our Compass ARTIC core values!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Aero K., of Westlake Village

“Aero has modeled the ARTIC core value of achievement this month by having excellent participation in our homeroom live classes,” shares Kerry Cody, supervising teacher. “She always arrives to class on time ready to learn and enjoys interacting with the content we are learning. In addition, Aero scored as an early transitional reader as a kindergartener on her Star Assessment! She is working hard on her academics and demonstrating so much learning! I am very proud of Aero and can’t wait to see what she continues to achieve this school year! Way to go, Aero!”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Madison W., of Long Beach

“Madison is a returning Compass scholar and doing excellent work in all her courses,” shares Kim Noller, middle school teacher. “In her learning period 1 connection meeting, she told me she signed up to be in six Compass clubs! I love her enthusiasm for Compass activities and how well she organizes herself to excel in her work.”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Thasya M., of Cerritos

“Thasya is a hard-working and dedicated scholar,” shares Heberto Valladares. “She always tries her best and participates in our weekly meetings. In addition, Thaysa is polite, self-motivated, and exudes self-confidence.”

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Camilla K., of Palmdale

Camilla is an incredibly hard-working and diligent scholar who achieved an exceptional score on her SATs,” shares Elaine Amari, high school coordinator. “Camilla is known for her dedication to academics, as well as her kind and engaging personality. She is a scholar we are all so proud of, and I look forward to seeing her go far in life!”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Kaelyn A., of Fontana

“Kaelyn has started the year off very strong!” Shares Kelli McCaulley, supervising teacher. “In her first year of high school, Kaelyn has submitted work samples that clearly demonstrate her understanding, progress, and dedication to her school work. She is a talented artist and is excelling in ASL. I’m proud of Kaelyn and her academic achievement!”

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Saedie A., of Placentia

“Saedie has completed all her work with a big smile on her face,” shares Crystal Chavez, elementary school teacher. In every learning lab, she participates and shares with her classmates. I love to see her heart poured into her learning!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Valentina D., of Imperial Beach

“Valentina has been eager to learn English and has exceeded her daily weekly usage in Lexia,” shares Debbie Casper, supervising teacher. “She is consistently attending my homeroom instruction classes and participates with great joy. She always shares new words she learned in English and is proud of her achievement.”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Colton A., of Lake Elsinore

“Colton attends his learning labs and is actively involved in the lessons presented to him,” shares Carrie Talcott, middle school teacher. “He consistently logs in and does his work daily, and he is a pleasure to work with.”

Option Middle School Scholar of the Month: Zachariah B., of Anaheim

“He has been amazing at school so far this year!” Shares Robin Tojo, supervising teacher. “Participating a TON during class discussion, turning in work, and during our sync time, he’s been really helpful with the little ones!”

High School Scholar of the Month: Aiden M., of Tustin

“Aiden has been a Compass scholar and family member since he was in second grade – seven years!” Shares Shannon Davis, high school teacher. “His perseverance and dedication have been a great asset to his success at Compass. Aiden is motivated, dedicated, and determined! He is a role model of success and always strives to do his best. Aiden is a stellar Firebird!”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Esmeralda L., of Spring Valley

“Esmeralda is a dedicated scholar who consistently does excellent work in all subjects while also developing her English language fluency,” shares Jeanne Richardson, supervising teacher. “Esmeralda works hard academically, helping at home, working alongside her mother, tutoring her younger siblings. She is definitely deserving of an award in achievement!”

Compass Charter Schools of Yolo (serving the counties of Yolo, Contra Costa, Colusa, Lake, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma, and Sutter):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Evelyn T., of Upper Lake

“I am nominating Evelyn for her efforts in demonstrating the integrity of having a growth mindset through assessments,” shares Crystal Chavez, elementary school teacher. “Evelyn persevered even when it got tough.”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Amelia K., of Guinda

“Amelia took her STAR assessment and scored in Tier 1, and in the 90% or above for both Early Literacy and Math,” shares Whitney Perea, supervising teacher. “I have seen her blossom in the three years that I’ve been honored to be her supervising teacher.”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Gage G., of Rohnert Park

Gage is having a great start to the school year.,” shares Erica Angelo, middle school teacher. “He is actively participating in all learning labs with his camera on and excelling in all his classes with an A.”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Joshua V., of Napa

“Joshua is truly taking responsibility for his education this year,” shares Sandy Lee, supervising teacher. “He’s started by taking one of his most challenging subjects, math, very seriously. Joshua learns independently, takes notes on his recorded lessons, and keeps a math journal. Though it can seem tedious at times, he perseveres through the lesson and gives it his best effort. It is already proving to be a worthwhile endeavor. He is already achieving significant gains in math, and it’s only the first month of school!”

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Aiden K., of Walnut Creek

“Aiden has been self-motivated to start the semester strong,” shares Rosette Sowell, high school teacher. “He has been excellent about communicating via email and has displays professionalism in his academics. He is committed to his academic success, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes!”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Charlie K., of Sebastopol

“Charlie is an excellent scholar,” shares Holly Dong, supervising teacher. “I appreciate her sense of humor and personality. Charlie shows her dedication to excellence with her work samples, particularly in writing and art, and her dedication to hard work on her math samples. She should be proud of all that she has accomplished!”
