Compass Charter Schools (CCS) Names their October
Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – CCS is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the CCS core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement, and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Moses A. of Camarillo and Rhett N. of Torrance

Ms.Fullerton shares, “Moses is on track and scoring high in his Accelerate courses. He attends and participates in all his learning labs. Moses is a pleasure to work with and to have in class! Keep up the great work, Moses!”

Ms. Popelar shares, “Rhett exemplifies what it means to be an ARTIC scholar. He is a hard-working scholar who actively participates and attends our learning labs. Rhett comes prepared with the necessary materials and completes all activities set forth. He continually engages in our Flipgrid classroom forum, demonstrating respect at all times, and is achieving in his Accelerate Ed curriculum. His learning coach ensures that he communicates with his teacher, and they are a joy to have in my class! Rhett is a wonderful scholar and encompasses our CCS ARTIC values. Way to go, Rhett!”

Middle School Scholar of the Month: Sean O. of Yucca Valley

Sean’s supervising teacher, Ms. Morales, shares, “Sean is extremely professional and polite during all his correspondence with CCS staff. Since the sixth grade, he has been attending community college and communicates with the utmost respect and on the intellectual level of his much older peers and professors. He exemplifies the highest level of human decency and moral values. Sean is an amazing role model for his younger siblings and a perfect example of a well-respected mentor.”

High School Scholar of the Month: Zoie C. of Morongo Valley

Ms. Morales shares, “Zoie has come so far in her educational journey, and I am so proud to see her through these last few years. She is so vested in her education and has taken almost complete control of her schooling. Her personality is bubbly, she has such a sweet nature, and her positivity is infectious. I cannot wait to see what else she achieves throughout her life!”

Compass Charter Schools of San Diego (serving the counties of San Diego, Imperial, Orange, and Riverside):

Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Crosby T. of Orange

Ms. Slobojan shares, “Crosby has been a great scholar in our Navigators’ Zoom classes. He volunteers answers and shares his thoughts and ideas. He brings great energy to the class, and when asked to change his background screen because it was hard for me to see him, he did so immediately and with such a great attitude. I am so glad Crosby is part of our learning community! Great job, Crosby!”

Middle School Scholar of the Month: Emily G-F. of Murrieta

Ms. Compalas shares, “Emily is such a respectful scholar. She makes it a point to say hello to me during phone calls and zoom meetings. So far, all her work samples look great. She explained to me how she came up with the solar oven project in science.”

High School Scholar of the Month: Alexis G. of Carlsbad

Mr. Vasquez shares, “Alexis is an exemplary scholar with perfect attendance and excellent academic performance. She has great communication skills and is always respectful and reaches out when she needs help,” Mrs. Amari also shares, “Alexis is a consistent participant in learning labs, and has blazed ahead in classes!”

Compass Charter Schools of Yolo (serving the counties of Yolo, Contra Costa, Colusa, Lake, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma, and Sutter):

Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Alexis L. of Petaluma

Ms. Domino shares, “Alexis always shows respect during our connection meetings. She sits patiently, waits her turn to tells me what she has been working on, and is always involved in the meeting. I have enjoyed getting to know Alexis and her sisters during the 2019-20 school year, and I’m looking forward to what this school year will bring. Great job, Alexis!”

Middle School Scholar of the Month: Maya D-L. of Clayton

Ms. Hathaway shares, “Maya is so respectful during our connection calls and is ready to politely and gracefully share everything that she has learned. She is an exceptional scholar, and she is doing great as a first-time at home learner. Her family loves our Options program, and her Mother is seeing how much one-on-one time she has with her scholars to dive deep into topics. It is obvious Maya has great respect for her teachers and for learning in general!”

High School Scholar of the Month: Hosanna J. of Canyon

Ms. Lee shares, “Hosanna is an excellent student. She has worked hard over the years to improve her writing. It’s her academic goal this semester to continue to improve her narrative writing skills. Enrolling in a challenging online writing and literature course this year will help her to accomplish this goal. In addition to this, she is also taking a math course at her local community college to challenge herself and is doing very well! Her achievement is only one aspect of the commitment she has to uphold all our ARTIC values.”
