Compass Charter Schools Names their May 2022 Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the Compass core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Heaven Z.

“Heaven has made great progress this month in not only her academic skills but her consistent efforts and determination to make school a priority. This family has shown great perseverance and has grown significantly during challenging circumstances.” ~Katie Hooper, Elementary School Teacher

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Vincent W.

“Vincent is an enthusiastic scholar who enjoys participating in class. He listens attentively and raises his hand before he speaks. Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Sebastian S.M.

“Sebastian has made incredible growth on the Math STAR assessment by increasing his score by nearly 75 points. He works hard in Freckle and Khan Academy and is determined to grow even more by the end of the year.” ~Erica Angelo, Middle School Teacher

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Landon M.

“Landon is a fine young gentleman who tries his best in all his work. He participates fully during homeroom instruction sessions and has a very respectful demeanor in our interactions. Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Emily G.F.

“Emily is a sweet young lady who works diligently on all her tasks at home and school. She can read chapter books and write a summary for each chapter of the current book she is reading. Emily is a young entrepreneur that designs dog collars and sells them to other people. She also does a lot of chores at home, like baking, taking care of the chicken, and household chores. She has a well-rounded personality and likes playing and doing projects with her younger brother. I am so proud of all her achievements!” ~Cristina Compalas, Supervising Teacher

“I have had the privilege of being Alexys’s supervising teacher for three years. I have LOVED working with this amazing scholar! She had advanced her English language skills so much over the last three years. She has also learned to play the guitar. Alexys is a great scholar, an excellent artist, and a kind friend. Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Angelina A.

“Angelina is a motivated and excited learner. She is happy to share what she learned. Her learning coach works with her to apply what they learned in the real world. They were learning about water sources; lakes, rivers, oceans, and the animals within them. They visited them in these areas in their community. Angelina also created models of these water sources. She often applies what is taught in classes, and they expand those lessons at home. Angelina works well with her Mom, creating a wonderful learning environment together.” ~Kelly Darley, Curriculum Developer and Supervising Teacher

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Teagan K.

“Teagan is a great member of my homeroom. She is creative, curious, welcoming, and full of ideas that she consistently shares with everyone. She is always willing to participate, likes to listen to her classmates, and replies always show her interest in others. Teagan  has a great spirit, and I am so happy to have her as a member of the Compass family and as a scholar in my homeroom.” ~Erin Thomson, Middle School Teacher

“Riley has been focused this year on meeting and exceeding grade-level standards in math and reading; he has been attending extra tutoring, practicing at home, and reading longer and harder books than he ever has. His level of achievement has blown me away. This isn’t something that just began this month, this has been happening all year long, and I truly feel that he deserves to be a scholar of the month for his dedication, hard work, and achievement.” ~Whitney Perea, Supervising Teacher
