Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Kyla L.

“Kyla created her own business as a way to help a family in need. Her business Kyla’s Kindness Bakes; started in July to raise money in order to make the holiday special for a less fortunate family. She baked goods and sold them to friends and neighbors in her community to earn the money. Not only did she immerse herself in her business to help others, but she also used this as an opportunity to learn. She budged the cost of the materials and supplies and factored in her profits in order to reach her goal. She used math skills, such as adding, subtracting, working with money, and multiplying and dividing fractions. In addition, she wrote about her experience to explain how she got the idea, reached her goals, and felt after giving the surprise visit to the family. Kyla exhibits all of the ARTIC values- achieving her goals, respecting members of her community, working as a team with her learning coach and local community members to find a family in need, keeping clear accounting to show integrity, and communicating her goals and accomplishments. She is truly an amazing Compass Firebird!” ~Wendy Sottile, Supervising Teacher

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Jonathan G.

“Jonathan has made huge gains on his STAR math assessment, gaining 77 points from his previous score! He continues to work hard on improving his math scores. He stays on task independently while I’m helping others, displaying his strong sense of integrity and achievement.” ~Erica Angelo, Middle School Teacher

It has been a privilege to watch her grow, mature, and learn. She speaks beautiful English and Spanish; she is a tremendous help to her many younger siblings. She is kind and gracious. She is thoughtful and brilliant. Keep up the great work, Anai (Jhatziri)!” ~Jeanne Richardson, Supervising Teacher
