Compass Charter Schools Names their January 2022 Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the Compass core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Emma R. of Lake View

“Emma is hard working and loves to learn,” shares Kari Watt, Elementary School Teacher. “She attends and participates in daily learning labs. I can always count on Emma to give thoughtful insight and responses. She is also an amazing artist and finds creative ways to extend her learning in the Accelerated Education curriculum. It is a joy having Emma as a scholar!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Levi K. of Reseda

“Levi is a dedicated scholar who takes pleasure in his work, shares Shannon Fowler, Supervising Teacher. “He is respectful of his learning coach and his supervising teacher. He focuses on his assignments and is making great strides. The sky is the limit for Levi!”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Eden Y. of Northridge

“Eden has learned to be successful as an online scholar,” shares Carrie Talcott, Middle School Teacher. “He is new to the school but stays on a consistent schedule daily and completes his work in a timely fashion each week. He attends labs and participates in group work daily. He has strong study habits and is an exemplary scholar.”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Robert F. of Costa Mesa

“Rob has shown achievement in technology, repairing his computer and using the technology available to him, like a microscope, to take his science work samples to the next level. In addition, he is using his talent and interest in technology to enhance his education.” Shared Holly Dong, Supervising Teacher.

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Itzana C.A. of Colton

“Itzana’s dedication to communication, respect, and achievement are reflected in her consistent engagement with live sessions and course progress!” Shared Jen Hobson, High School Teacher.

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Tania T.E. of Baldwin Park

“Tania is a very motivated and enthusiastic learner,” shares Ruth Chavez-Rivera, Supervising Teacher. “She takes great pride in her work and has a great work ethic. Tania happily participates in all opportunities offered to her, such as tutoring, Live synch sessions, and extra support. Consequently, she has become an independent scholar and has grown academically in all areas, especially as an English Language Learner. Tania volunteers and is always ready to share her presentations and participate in live sessions. She is a true pleasure to have as a scholar.”

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Hunter A. of Temecula

“Hunter is always participating in labs and group work,” shares Monique Grimes, Elementary School Teacher. “He has a kind heart, and his words are always well thought out and contributive to the task at hand. He is a wonderful group leader, and there is a team effort with the LC and himself to let me know if he needs a working reset. Any teacher would be honored to have Hunter and his family on their roster.”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Mia O. of San Diego

“Mia is only in first grade, but she has been an outstanding scholar ever since kindergarten,” shares Priscilla Deker, Supervising Teacher. “She reads above grade level, has excellent maths skills, and enjoys weekly science and social studies projects. Mis has excellent communication skills and loves learning in all its forms, traditional worksheets, hands-on activities, online classes, subscriptions. She truly deserves to be a scholar of the month. She is proud of her accomplishments and never hesitates to send videos and present what she has been learning.”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Britney B. of Borrego

“Britney has consistently logged into the curriculum to submit assignments six hours a day and always attends learning labs weekly. As a result, she has been above average in her classes the whole semester.” Shared Carrie Talcott, Middle School Teacher.

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Sharon V. of San Diego

“Sharon is such a delightful scholar! She is always cheerful, works hard, and is versed in two languages! She is funny and conscientious, caring and artistic.” Shared Jeanne Richardson, Supervising Teacher.

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Mia B of Ramona

“Mia’s diligence and dedication to learning stand out a great deal, and as she works her way through her final year of high school, she is truly shining. Great job, Mia!” Shared Terry El Massry, High School Teacher.

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Katerina G. of Carlsbad

“Katerina has a strong work ethic and never completes any assignment halfway,” shares Laura Harvey, Options Regional Coordinator. “She shows special strengths in the area of social studies and science and has done very well this year. Katerina is a problem solver and shows a great deal of persistence. She is very responsible and turns assignments/homework in on time. She has a good sense of theme/the main idea/characters/plot/inferences, which strengthens her reading ability.”

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Gemma Y. of Woodland

“Gemma started with Compass during Semester 1,” shares Joyce Popelar, Elementary School Teacher. “She has excelled in her subjects and continually strives to do her best. Gemma continually engages in our learning lab classroom and always respects others. She embodies and represents each of our Compass ARTIC core values. Gemma is a joy to have in class!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Aubrey G. of Oakley

“Aubrey is an enthusiastic learner who seems to enjoy school,” shares Laura Harvey, Options Regional Coordinator. “She shows initiative and looks for new ways to get involved. She is courteous and shows good manners in our synchronous time. She also shows respect for teachers and peers.”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Leslie P. of Antioch

“Leslie consistently does her work each day and is an actively engaged.participant.in the labs,” shares Kim Noller, Middle School Teacher. “She turns in outstanding work in which she has done the appropriate amount of research to completely explain the subjects that she is writing about for projects.”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Alexis Q. of Benicia

“Alexis is such a hard worker and dedicated in all she does,” shares Danielle Power, Supervising Teacher. “Anytime we have someone new in homeroom class, she always makes sure they feel welcome and included. She has also been taking horseback riding once a week and entered a horse competition. I love getting to see her grow and improve in all her work, social interaction, and activities.”

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Jasmine W. of Angwin

“Jasmine has been working hard with extra classes during the Fall 21-22 semester, and we are very pleased with her progress. Her commitment to achievement and integrity stand out!” Shared Sharon Rosen, Social Studies Teacher.

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Kaliann W. of Hidden Valley Lake

“Kaliann is a truly talented artist! Last month she won a statewide art competition with her beautifully illustrated winter scene,” shares Annette Metten, Resource Specialist. “Her work samples for her Fine Arts elective are also impressive! Her incredible artistic skills also translate to the world of baking. She and her sister recently undertook the challenge of designing and creating a geode cake for their younger brother. I’m always excited to see what Kaliann creates next!”
