Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Pedro A.

“Pedro is working very hard in all his courses. He attends learning labs and is a pleasure to have in class!” ~Michelle Fullerton, Elementary School Teacher

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Coen N.

“Coen showed dedication and focus as he completed a pencil sharpener project from start to finish. He followed instructions and was determined to follow through to the end. He gave it a great effort and achieved what he set out to do: A “working” pencil sharpener.” ~Karla Marroquin, Supervising Teacher

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Gerard T.

“Gerard is a brand new scholar at Compass. He worked through all the onboarding steps in a very organized and steadfast manner. He communicated with me immediately anytime he needed help. His communication was clear, and he took care to explain his obstacles so that I could help him efficiently. Welcome to Compass, Gerard. You are off to an amazing start!” ~Erin Thomson, Middle School Teacher

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Levi L.

“Levi shows up to homeroom instruction every week with a smile and enthusiasm. He is learning and growing academically, and this is evidenced by huge growth on his most recent STAR assessment! He is polite and respectful and works hard. And, he is progressing nicely with his piano playing! Well done, Levi!” ~Kerry Cody, Supervising Teacher

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Santana L.

“Santana is proactive when it comes to engagement and is focused on using his time to further his learning and engage with all content areas. Great work, Santana!” ~Rosette Sowell, Online High School Teacher

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Austin V.

“I have known Austin since he was in third grade, and he’s always been a wonderful human being, with wide-ranging interests, and a great work ethic in all his many pursuits! But this work ethic was not always applied in his school work. Last year, Austin decided that he wanted to graduate from high school, after his junior year, and he has worked diligently to make that happen. I have seen a lot of scholars with tremendous motivation and a clear goal, but Austin’s sheer drive has been inspiring to watch! While I am sad that my time as Austin’s teacher is drawing towards an end, I am so proud of his extraordinary achievement and un-paralleled drive to ACHIEVE his goal!” ~Karissa Hyross, Supervising Teacher

Compass Charter Schools of San Diego (serving the counties of San Diego, Imperial, Orange, and Riverside):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Aria D.

“Aria continually works hard and is excelling in the Accelerate Ed curriculum. She follows along and actively participates during our live synchronous sessions. This is Aria’s first year with Compass Charter Schools, and she has grown tremendously since the beginning of the school year. She is a wonderful scholar! Keep up the great work, Aria!” ~Joyce Popelar, Elementary School Teacher

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Ivan H.

“Ivan is a dedicated and respectful English Language scholar. He has shown integrity and persistence, joining me on zoom sessions consistently, even out in his backyard at times, staying engaged and actively participating. He is eager to learn, and his learning coach reports that he puts forth a good effort at home with his learning.” ~Cynthia McGregor, Supervising Teacher

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Alex W.

“Alex started with Compass last September and has adjusted well to our online platform. She passed all of her Semester 1 courses with A’s! She has shown herself to be an exemplary scholar who not only achieves but communicates as needed with her teachers to maintain her grades! Way to go, Alex!” ~Kim Noller, Middle School Teacher

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Anthony A.

“Anthony is the definition of our ARTIC value of Integrity! Our Compass value states that “scholars provide their best-quality work in a consistent and responsible manner,” and this is exactly how I describe Anthony. He has posted work samples to Seesaw nearly EVERY DAY of this school year (as of Day 99: 206 samples!), and he replies right away himself to my questions and comments. He attends every live sync class and always participates. He is an English Learner and always meets the requirements of Lexia (or exceeds them). I am so proud of his growth and progress, and I am lucky to have his family on my roster!” ~Stephanie Lee, Supervising Teacher

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Mia B.

“Mia’s diligence and dedication to learning stand out a great deal, and as she works her way through her final year of high school, she is truly shining. Great job, Mia!” ~Terry El Massry, High School Teacher

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Antonio W.

“I nominate Antonio (J’Len) for his dedication and continuous improvement as a scholar. He takes ownership of his schoolwork and takes pride in all of his work, especially digital arts. He communicates his curriculum needs and has grown so much in his senior year.” ~Debbie Kasper, Supervising Teacher

Compass Charter Schools of Yolo (serving the counties of Yolo, Contra Costa, Colusa, Lake, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma, and Sutter):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Isaac B.

“Isaac is an amazing scholar! He works hard, reaches out when he needs help, and participates in learning labs. He is very kind and respectful when interacting with his peers and teachers. He is a model scholar of the ARTIC values.” ~Michelle Fullerton, Elementary School Teacher

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Gianna F.

“Gianna is a highly motivated scholar. She is respectful of her learning coach and the teachers she interacts with. She turns in wonderful work samples and is very artistic. I believe Gianna is exactly what a Compass Firebird should be!” ~Shannon Fowler, Supervising Teacher

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Elliana O.

“Elliana is a very hard-working, conscientious scholar. She consistently attends learning labs, asks for help when needed, and maintains a friendly, cheerful attitude with her teachers and peers. She is an avid reader, enjoys drawing, and loves animals. She made the honor roll for semester 1 and will likely do the same in semester 2. Great work, Elliana. We are all proud of your efforts.” ~Erin Thomson, Middle School Teacher

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Abigail M.

“Abigail represents and demonstrates all our ARTIC values, but over the last learning period, I have seen her dedication to her education shine through. I would like to nominate her for the Achievement Award because she puts 100% into her studies; she goes above and beyond to understand a concept and relay that information. She does a great job of tracking her studies and being ahead of schedule while always achieving excellence in her work. Abigail and other scholars within their co-op researched multiple scientists, then selected one specific scientist to investigate in detail, and then created a mystery guessing box for their scientist. They used their newfound knowledge to guess which mystery box was for which scientist. This is just one example of her achievements, but she demonstrates this ARTIC value across her studies.” ~Jenna Morales, Supervising Teacher

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Ignacio A.

“Ignacio is harnessing his focus and powering into Spring 2022 with a proactive attitude. Well done, Ignacio!” ~Terry El Massry, High School Teacher

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Benjamin G.

“Benjamin is a wonderful addition to our weekly live classes; he always has thoughtful comments and considered his answers. This year, he has really grown and is working towards college-level work in his classes. He turned in an excellent history paper this month!” ~Rebecca Jacobs, Supervising Teacher

“Congratulations to all of our February 2022 Scholars of the Month. There are many talented scholars at Compass, and this program is one of the many ways we recognize and celebrate their hard work,” shares J.J. Lewis, Superintendent & CEO. “Please join all of us at Compass in celebrating all of our Scholars of the Month from across the Compass Family of Public Personalized Learning Charter Schools!”
