Compass Charter Schools Celebrates Their Counselors
During National School Counseling Week

THOUSAND OAKS – Compass Charter Schools invites you to join us in celebrating National School Counseling Week to focus public attention on school counselors’ unique contribution, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), Monday, February 1 through this Friday, February 5. This year’s theme is “School Counselors: All in for All Students,” and will highlight the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping scholars achieve school success and plan for a career.

“The counselors at Compass are an integral part of our scholars’ positive Compass experience,” shared J.J. Lewis, CCS Superintendent & CEO. “Our counselors are truly all in supporting our scholars through their entire journey here at Compass. I know I am speaking for our entire Compass community when I say that we are so grateful for our school counselor’s hard work, passion, and dedication to making a positive difference in each of our scholars’ lives!”

The Counseling Services Department currently consists of seven credentialed counselors passionate about supporting scholars’ academic growth, mental and emotional well being, and college and career planning. Compass conducts ongoing webinars for scholars and learning coaches centered around academics, social-emotional intelligence, college, and career readiness.

“Our team of school counselors are an integral part of the support system at Compass,” shares Debra Stephan, Director of Counseling Services. “Each counselor brings their passion to our scholars daily with a wealth of insight and professionalism to a variety of scholar-centered issues. We partner with our scholars in the roughest moments on their educational journey and celebrate their wins in reaching their goals. Our comprehensive school counseling program proves to be a much-needed resource for our scholars, parents, and teachers. I am all in for guiding and leading this team each day! “

Compass welcomed a new counselor to their team this year, Mrs. Kiki Helton. The department added a weekly Middle School Counseling Learning Lab and High School Counseling Learning Lab. Each counselor hosts small groups with scholars in their caseloads. These small group sessions aim to give scholars a chance to connect with their counselors and their peers in a no-stress, inclusive and welcoming environment. Compass Counseling Department has also introduced another way to connect with our scholars and families with the Virtual Counseling Offices and a Calming Corner, where counselors share resources related to Coping Strategies.

“I am all in as a school counselor to provide essential counseling services in a safe and caring environment to support all populations and needs of scholars attending Compass,” shares Gabriela Ayala, Compass Counselor. “I am incredibly fortunate to work under an amazing leader and a group of counseling professionals who are committed to supporting one another in delivering a comprehensive school counseling program.”
