Thousand Oaks, CA –  Budding young entertainers, aspiring stars and passionate performers competed in the Compass Charter Schools (CCS) Virtual Scholar Talent Show at the end of March. CCS announced scholars Ashley G., a tenth-grade scholar at CCS of Los Angeles, America S., a fourth-grade scholar at CCS of Fresno, and Avigael H., a sixth-grade scholar at CCS of Los Angeles, as the top performers of the Virtual Talent Show. The Virtual Scholar Talent Show was held on Friday, March 30. The top performers were selected by a judging panel of CCS staff members.

“The top performers of our 2018 Virtual Scholar Talent Show were a joy to watch and blew me away with their talent,” said Rebecca MacAlpine, Scholar Engagement Coordinator. “Congratulations to our top performers as well as all of our scholars who shared their incredible talents with us!”

A wide variety of talents were performed virtually for the audience of scholars, parents, and staff. Scholar talents ranged from songs performed by Ashley G. and Avigael H. to hula dancing performed by America S. The various other participating scholars shared their singing, acting and piano talents with those who virtually attended the talent show. The top performers of the show will receive Compass spirit apparel.

The arts have a great impact on academic achievement according to a seminal study in 2009. Through the arts, scholars strengthen problem-solving and communication skills, increase leadership capacity, creative thinking, and support community engagement, which helps prepare them for life. Schools can help children by elevating their arts programs.

“Congratulations to Ashley, America, and Avigael for being selected as the winners of our Virtual Scholar Talent Show,” said J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO. “We challenged all of our scholars to share their special talents with the entire Compass community. These scholars, along with all of the show’s participating scholars, met that challenge and have a done an amazing job sharing their talents and inspiring their peers. I know I am speaking for all of our Compass community when I share that we are so proud of everyone’s creativity and hard work. It was truly amazing watching everyone share their talents last month!”

CCS is proud of all the participating scholars for sharing their unique talents and for supporting the performers. CCS continues to offer scholars the opportunity to play a leading role in their school community and encourages scholars to express their creativity and share their school spirit.
