THOUSAND OAKS — Compass Charter Schools (CCS) is excited to host a free community event called “Family Fun Day.” The event will allow families in the Fresno community to gather and enjoy a variety of kid-friendly activities and hands-on learning experiences including a visit from PBS’ Curious George.

Family Fun Day is this Friday, March 9 from 2 to 6 pm at The Learning Village, located at 3723 E Dakota Avenue in Fresno. Local families are invited to attend this free community event to engage with a variety of local businesses, enter to win raffle prizes, take pictures with PBS’ Curious George, and meet several CCS staff members including J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO.

“We are incredibly excited to host Family Fun Day for families in Fresno,” said Karle Roberts, Family Engagement Coordinator. “We are grateful that a variety of local businesses have agreed to join this special event and entertain the families. Our staff is eager to coordinate a variety of fun activities at this event and meet new families. Family Fun Day is the perfect opportunity for parents in the Fresno community to enjoy a fun afternoon with their children, play with other families, and meet our wonderful staff. I am truly looking forward to this special event!”

CCS is a virtual independent study charter school serving grades TK-12 with a scholar enrollment of over 1,000. In 2012, CCS began with a small team of educators in Southern California committed to providing a safe, family-centered alternative to the traditional brick and mortar school for scholars throughout the state. While CCS has evolved over the years, the desire to provide excellent educational options has remained strong with our online and homeschool programs. Over the past five years, we have educated the highly gifted, the bullied, the athlete, the actor, the academically-challenged, the chronically ill, and many other scholars who sought a personalized educational experience outside traditional classroom walls.

“CCS is excited to host our second Family Fun Day in Fresno this year,” said J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO. “We are truly passionate about creating a strong sense of community and this free, local event is sure to do just that for families in and around the Fresno area. Our staff is looking forward to meeting families and spending the afternoon with them. I am grateful that several local, family-friendly businesses have agreed to attend Family Fun Day and I am truly looking forward to meeting families at this exciting community event.”

CCS believes that a well-connected community is an essential part of successful learning for scholars and their families and continues to organize community-focused events in order to play a leading role in Fresno’s public school community.
