Thousand Oaks, CA –  Compass Charter Schools (CCS) will present at the Girls World Expo this Sunday, March 4. The Girls World Expo, held in Fresno, is an event that focuses on inspiring, motivating and uplifting young girls as they strive to build healthy relationships, develop self-confidence and achieve their goals.

Rebecca MacAlpine, Scholar Engagement Coordinator, will give a presentation on cyber safety to help teen girls and their parents safely navigate today’s digital world. The presentation will discuss several risks involved with online activity and how families can avoid or overcome those obstacles. The presentation will also provide advice to help teen girls make smart, safe choices online and offer encouragement to help them overcome any challenges they may face such as identity theft.

“Cyber safety is a necessity for all youth in today’s society,” said MacAlpine. “It’s important for youth to know the risks involved with online activity and how to protect themselves. I believe in raising awareness of cybersecurity for everyone to ensure that today’s generation is educated and prepared to interact online safely.”

Girls World Expo is a day-long event created by local teen girls for local teen girls. The event invites teen girls to enjoy a day full of presentations by successful and powerful women right from their own community who can show them a path to success! Visitors will have the opportunity to attend workshops, listen to speakers, see demonstrations, science exhibits, and speak one-on-one with women who are leaders in business, government, industry, the arts, and many other realms of endeavor. It’s a rare opportunity for young girls to see what their future could be, and learn what it will take to get there. There will be fashion on display, an art show, music and dance performances by talented local artists, and the always-popular GWE Marketplace, where families can see and purchase everything from hair accessories to self-help materials, and clothing to jewelry.

CCS is a virtual independent study charter school serving grades TK-12 with a scholar enrollment of over 1,000. In 2012, CCS began with a small team of educators in Southern California committed to providing a safe, family-centered alternative to the traditional brick and mortar school for scholars throughout the state. While CCS has evolved over the years, the desire to provide excellent educational options has remained strong with our online and homeschool programs. Over the past five years, we have educated the highly gifted, the bullied, the athlete, the actor, the academically-challenged, the chronically ill, and many other scholars who sought a personalized educational experience outside traditional classroom walls.

“CCS is committed to offering families the support and guidance they need to ensure their children stay safe in today’s digital world,” said J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO. “We are proud to offer our scholars, and non-scholars alike at the Girls World Expo, a clear set of tools and resources to help them stay safe online. Thank you to Rebecca for presenting at the Girls World Expo and sharing important safety tips for teen girls and their families!”
