Long Beach, Ca. – Compass Charter Schools (CCS) hosted an eighth-grade promotion celebration and high school graduation ceremony to honor its accomplished scholars yesterday, Tuesday, June 12 at Skylinks Golf Club in Long Beach. The ceremonies promoted 12 eighth-grade scholars and celebrated 27 graduating high school scholars.

The high school graduation ceremony included opening remarks from J.J. Lewis, CCS President and CEO, and a commencement address from Janae Smith, high school coordinator. Each scholar received their diploma to signify their graduation and enjoyed a light lunch after the ceremony to celebrate the start of a new chapter in their lives with their family and friends.

The CCS graduation ceremony in Long Beach was perfect!” said Jackie M., mother of graduating scholar Johnathon. “It was the most enjoyable and pleasant graduation ceremony I have ever attended. We especially enjoyed watching the slide presentation of the scholars’ childhood photos. We appreciate all of the effort made by the wonderful staff. The speakers were excellent, with just the right amount of humor and formality. Thank you for making John’s high school graduation a memorable experience.

The high school graduation ceremony also gave special recognition to several scholars for their outstanding academic achievements. In addition to receiving a diploma, Lilimar H.R., Brice L., and Johnathon M. received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher for two or more semesters, along with teacher recommendations, and Heidi H. and Masoma N. received the President’s Award for Educational Achievement for outstanding educational growth, commitment, and teacher recommendations.

“It was definitely a great experience to be a part of the CCS family,” said Mayte R.G., mother of graduating scholar Lilimar. “We received so much help and cooperation from all of the teachers and staff to ensure our daughter’s success. We are extremely proud of Lilimar for working so hard and graduating high school. Thank you, CCS for helping her do her best and earn even academic awards that she will always be proud of.”

CCS also hosted a promotion ceremony for eighth-grade scholars to celebrate their academic progress and welcome them into high school. Each scholar received a certificate of promotion and enjoyed light refreshments following the ceremony to celebrate with their family and friends.

Both of my sons have grown tremendously and they absolutely enjoy being part of Compass Charter Schools,” said Jeff Macias, CCS parent. “I have seen a complete turnaround in their academics… both of my children have made honor roll and I’m just so proud of them. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with all of the CCS staff! I thank you and bless all of you from the bottom of my heart.

In addition to receiving their certificates, three scholars earned special recognition for their academic achievements. Jaeger L. and Leila L. received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, and Emerson S. received the President’s Award for Educational Achievement.

“I am so proud of our scholars,” said Lewis. “They have persevered throughout their Compass educational journey and I am confident that they are prepared for their next chapter in life. Please join me in celebrating our Class of 2018 for their incredible achievements, and class of 2022 for promoting to high school!”
