Compass Charter Schools (CCS) Names their November Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – CCS is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the CCS core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement, and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Ava S., of Bakersfield

Ava is always such a pleasure to have in learning labs,” said Katie Hooper, online elementary school teacher. “She is always willing to try even when she is nervous. Her work is always on time and she is keeping a great pace for her online schooling.”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Grayson C., of Chino

Grayson is flourishing in our online environment. He is always at learning lab, and the first to turn on his camera and volunteer to participate,” said Lacey Lehman, online middle school teacher. “He works hard on his school and has been submitting awesome work. He communicates regularly with all of his teachers. He is always so positive and just so much fun. He is truly a joy to work with.

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Kadan R., of Burbank

“Kadan is an absolute pleasure to have in class,” said Alex Vazquez, online high school teacher. “He has made outstanding academic progress in his Spanish 1A course. Kadan consistently attends his learning labs and he continues to demonstrate great communication skills with his peers and teachers. Great job, Kadan!” 

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Thasya M., of Cerritos

“Thasya has started her first year of homeschooling with great enthusiasm,” said Jill Pulver, educational facilitator. “She is working on Singapore Math along with Ancient Vedic Math taught by her father. She is reading and speaking both English and her native language. She has embraced science, conducting experiments and documenting her experiences in her own journals. Archery and dance are her favorite extracurricular activities and she is a gifted painter as well. I am very impressed with her friendliness and organization!”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Dayja L., of Soledad

“Dayja has a great attitude towards everything,” said Danielle Kiefner, educational facilitator, “She is very respectful of her family and peers. She continues to try her best at everything, keeps going even when things get tough, and she is grateful for all of the help and support she receives from Compass and her community.”

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Nicolaus P., of Fallbrook

Nic is a wonderful scholar,” said Kari Watt, online elementary teacher. “He attends all Learning Labs and I can always count on his participation and thoughtful responses. He is also kind and encouraging to his classmates. Academically, Nic does well in all subjects and is a joy to work with! 

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Aiden M., of Tustin

Aiden is a stellar scholar,” said Lacey Lehman, online middle school teacher. “He is doing excellent in his Social Studies class. He remains on pace and excels at all his work. He will reach out if he does not fully understand an assignment instead of guessing because he wants to complete it accurately and well. His commitment, dedication, and his drive does not go unnoticed.”

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Michael E., of El Cajon

“Michael is a wonderful scholar in both my math and chemistry classes,” said Lynn Woodley, online high school teacher. “He always attends and participates in the learning labs. Michael is respectful in class and in all his communications with his peers and teachers. He is truly a pleasure to have in class.” 

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Aiden L., of San Marcos

“Aiden is always respectful during our connection meetings,” said Wendy Sottile, educational facilitator. “He is always excited to tell me about what he has learned since our last meeting and he sometimes asks questions about my family, too. I always enjoy giving Aiden a call to hear about his latest educational experiences!”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Caleb W., of Winchester

Caleb is a kind and respectful scholar,” said Wendy Sottile, educational facilitator. “He takes responsibility for his learning and is considerate and helpful in his family.

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Yamilex G., of Chula Vista

“Yamilex always turns in her work on time,” said Robin Pride, educational facilitator. “She has beautiful handwriting and shows great attention to detail in her work. Yamilex’s hard work demonstrates respect for herself and the work she completes. I look forward to seeing what she will accomplish this year! Great job, Yamilex!” 

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Cassidy K., of Wildomar

Cassidy is an excellent scholar with a great attitude towards work and to her peers and mentors as well, said Christina Compalas, educational facilitator. “She is diligent with her work and organizes her load of work so that she can accomplish what is expected from her. She always comes up with an outstanding and successful work.”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Brody G., of Benecia

Brody shows amazing perseverance for being just in 6th grade,” said Erica Angelo, online middle school teacher. “He has started late but is almost all done with the Science course already. He asks for help and is always on top of his work. I’m truly impressed. He attends labs and turns in exceptional work. He communicates with his teachers when he has questions.” 

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Samantha G., of Concord

“Samantha is new to online learning and works very hard in her classes,” said Elaine Amari, online high school teacher. “She has worked consistently and thoroughly since starting her studies at Compass. She actively participates in her learning labs, keeps up with the pace of her courses, and practices efficient communication!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Rebekah V., of Napa

“Rebekah has faced some challenges during the past few years but she continues to persevere,” said Sandy Lee, educational facilitator. “She demonstrates a respectful attitude towards her teachers, fellow scholars and greets others with a sweet smile! All her hard work pays off because she has made some very big strides this year academically. Way to go, Rebekah!”  

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Vienna S., of Middletown

“Vienna is a stellar scholar,” said Jennifer Bertram, educational facilitator. “She always submits amazing work samples! She manages to maintain academic excellence while performing in a theatre production. Her commitment to her theatrical role is just as amazing as her commitment to her academic studies. Vienna is creative and thoughtful with her work, she is a shining star!” 

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Zoe D., of Napa

“Zoe is involved in such a wide-range of activities: competing with her dachshunds in dog shows, excelling in her photography course at the community college, raising praying mantis (currently she has 200 babies she’s hand-feeding), and enjoying horseback riding when she has the time,” said Angela Cloud, educational facilitator. “Even though she and mom, Diane, are always on the go, Zoe remains a conscientious and tenacious scholar when it comes to her academic studies.”
