Compass Charter Schools (CCS) Names their January Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – CCS is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the CCS core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement, and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Brent G., of Simi Valley

“This is Brent’s first year with Compass and he is excelling in all of his course work,” shared Kari Watt, Online Elementary Teacher. “Brent is ahead of pace in all of his subjects and his learning coach shared that he is showing responsibility and motivation each day. He is enjoying his school work and has shown tremendous growth in reading and math. It is a pleasure having Brent as a scholar!”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Rafael H.V., of  Redondo Beach

“Rafael does well in his courses, communicates with his teachers and participates in labs. He has incredible insights in science and does a wonderful job when in the labs,” shared Kim Noller and Carrie Talcott, Online Middle School Teachers.

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Jareth S., of Highland

Alex Vazquez, an online Spanish teacher, nominated Jareth and states, “Jareth is an absolute pleasure to have in class. He has made outstanding academic progress in his Spanish 1A course. He consistently attends his learning labs and he continues to demonstrate great communication skills with his peers and teachers. Great job, Jareth!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Brevin H., of Seal Beach

“Brevin continually shows he can be trusted by the decisions he makes and how he leads others in his community,” shared Laura Harvey Educational Facilitator.   

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Jessica A., of  Baldwin Park

Jessica shows integrity through her hard work and perseverance in her homeschooling journey,” shared Michelle Vreeman, Options Regional Coordinator. “She gives wonderful effort and turns in a wide variety of samples each month to document her progress and growth.”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Natalya H., of Bakersfield, CA

“Natalya demonstrates the value of integrity by being a conscientious and diligent learner,” shared Ruth Chavez-Rivera, Options Regional Coordinator. “She also plans out her studies and completes her work on time. She does excellent work and is always working to meet the highest quality of standards. In addition to her academic work, she also spends several hours each week in her ballet, pointe and modern dance pursuits, and is very accomplished on the piano as well. She is a well-rounded, delightful scholar who will go far in life and leads others with her outstanding example.”

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Mariya W., Oceanside, CA

“Mariya works hard in K12 and is on track to meeting grade-level expectations,” shared Sarah Eagleton, Online Elementary School Teacher. “She attends learning labs, participates, and completes projects. She is a kind scholar who is a pleasure to have in class.” 

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Hannah C., of Moreno Valley

“I want to recognize this scholar’s positive attitude. Hannah just started at our school last week and has logged into every course. I’m excited to see where this momentum takes her. Great start Hannah!” stated Erica Angelo, Online Middle School Teacher.       

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Linnet (Linn) A., Fallbrook

“Linn has attended every learning lab in the semester and always participates in each session,” states David Spink, Online High School Science Teacher. “She is earning high marks in biology. Linn is respectful and a pleasure to have in my class. She communicates regularly and always stays on top of her work.” 

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Gloria G., San Ysidro

“Gloria is self-motivated and takes pride in a job well done. She loves math and science and wants to be a doctor one day. She also loves art and is a gifted artist. Gloria puts love into her work.” shared Ruth Chavez-Rivera, Options Regional Coordinator. 

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Lars O., Antioch

“Lars is an outstanding scholar. One who is always ready to learn and tackle any assignment,” shared Karle Roberts, Options Regional Coordinator. “He loves Science and Physics and has taken an interest in Disc Golf. He is combining his passion for disc golf and science by discovering the many types of discs shapes and how this will affect the flight and speed of the disc. Lars shows integrity in his work by staying organized and is respectful during our meetings.”

Compass Charter Schools of Yolo (serving the counties of Yolo, Contra Costa, Colusa, Lake, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma, and Sutter):

Online High School Scholar of the Month: JaCory J., of Oakland

Janae Smith, Online High School Coordinator stated, “Jacory is having a stellar year! He has shown that he is motivated and dedicated to his studies. JaCory is actively engaged in his courses and learning labs and communicates often. As the coordinator, it has been delightful to see his progress in all of his courses his school year and I know he will continue to finish this school year on top!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Brooklyn B., of Antioch

“Brooklyn is an amazing young scholar. Although she is only 5 years old, she already exhibits strong morals and principles,” shared Karle Roberts, Options Regional Coordinator. “She understands when it is appropriate to be gracious and kind, and when to stand up for something she believes in. She is kind and caring to her friends and family, is a helper to those in need, and she speaks the truth even when it seems hard or scary.”  

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Devin F., of Napa

“Devin is a determined student. He works hard in all subject areas and especially loves science and technology. While he is becoming quite an independent learner, he demonstrates integrity by respectfully requesting assistance with assignments requiring clarification. He doesn’t rush through an assignment just to get it done, he asks for help so that he can complete it correctly and completely. I’m very proud of how much Devin’s determination and integrity have increased since he started homeschooling 3 1/2 years ago. I can’t wait to see how far he will go with his education and what the future has in store for him.”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Nahir T., of Santa Rosa

“In the short time I’ve worked with Nahir, it has become clear he is a young man of integrity,” shared Michelle Vreeman, Options Regional Coordinator. “Though he works several hours per week, he is conscientious regarding his studies, follows through with what he promises, is respectful, timely, and engaging. Nahir graduates at the end of January and I know he will put good into the world whatever he decides to do next!”
