Compass Charter Schools (CCS) Names their February Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – CCS is proud of its scholars and the Scholar of the Month program to recognizes their accomplishments. The program also ties in the CCS core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Yanisel S. of Downey

“Yanisel excels in her courses and represents CCS ARTIC expectations. She continually strives to do her best. She is an excellent communicator and reaches out with questions on assignments. She is a pleasure to have in my class!” shares Joyce Popelar, Elementary School Teacher.

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Caryss P. of Bakersfield

“Caryss has such wonderful insight to share during our learning labs. She has excellent communication skills and is a high achiever,” shares Erica Angelo, Middle School Teacher.

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Gevorg A. of Los Angeles

“During his time attending CCS, Gevorg has been a true example of what it means to be a CCS Firebird,” Janae Smith, Online High School Coordinator shares. “He is an extraordinary scholar who achieved over a 4.0 GPA this fall while pursuing his career in the entertainment industry. He actively participates in all of his learning labs and courses. I cannot wait to see all of the amazing things he will continue to accomplish as he prepares to graduate as part of our CCS class of 2020 this June.”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Kaiden T. of Artesia

“Kaiden has excellent communication skills. He understands what is expected of him, and he can express his thoughts respectfully and appropriately,” shares Danielle Kiefner, Educational Facilitator. “He asks questions when guidance is needed and leads the way, guiding, and teaching others. And being a team basketball player, Kaiden knows how to work with groups of people in a collaborative effort towards a goal.”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Charlotte “Charli” C. of Encino

“Charli excels in the area of communication. She communicates with ease and is clear and concise when speaking about her progress during our connections meetings each month,” states Morgan Kohler, Educational Facilitator. “She writes detailed responses to short answer questions on assignments across subject areas, and her composition skills are strong. Also, she continuously works on strengthening her communication skills during her weekly improv classes. Charli is highly deserving of this award!”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Mason M. of Upland

“Mason keeps in contact with me via phone calls and texts. He is not afraid to ask questions and works hard in his classes on top of being a working actor,” shares Kristin Cirricione, Educational Facilitator.

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Lilith, J.B., of Cotati

“Lilith is new to Compass this year, but she has adjusted amazingly to our online program. She works hard, submits work on time, communicates with teachers, and consistently shows up to learning labs every week,” shares Lacey Lehman, Middle School Teacher. “Lilith wrote an excellent biography in social studies. She has overcome personal obstacles and is doing very well in our program. I am proud of her.”   

Online High School Scholar of the Month: KristiLynn E. of El Cajon

“KristiLynn personifies academic achievement,” states Janae Smith, Online High School Coordinator. “Her commitment to her studies, her peers, and her learning is evident as she actively participates in her learning labs and courses. She goes above and beyond to help her classmates. Between all of her extracurricular activities, she still managed to maintain well above a 4.0 GPA this past fall. KristiLynn truly is a remarkable scholar!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Marco “Sonny” M. of Chula Vista

“Sonny continues to make great progress in all academic areas,” shares Yoli Wiederrich, Educational Facilitator. “He is very determined and sets his mind on doing his best in all areas. He is very articulate and shows confidence when answering questions. We are very proud of him.”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Adam C. of Buena Park

“Adam is a wonderful scholar who continues to do well. He is eager to learn and is well-rounded in his abilities,” shares Amy Wormald, Educational Facilitator. “He is also a good brother and son and has been doing a great job with his progress this year! Keep up the great work, Adam!”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Harley S. of San Diego

“Harley is a wonderful scholar who loves to write and is very creative in her writing. She communicates with others effectively through her stories,” shares Laura Harvey, Educational Facilitator. “The details in her writing draw the reader in and keep their attention. Harley continues to work on her composition skills during her lessons. Keep up the amazing work!”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Michelle T.V. of Chula Vista

“Michelle worked hard all semester and has been in constant communication with me,” states Priscilla Deker, Educational Facilitator. “She has even helped other scholars understand what Compass is all about. She works hard to submit quality samples and always asks what additional work she can submit.”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Kaiya O. of Santa Rosa

“Kaiya puts forth tremendous effort toward every assignment she completes,” shares Kimberly Bender, Educational Facilitator. “She has wonderful penmanship and enjoys all subjects. Kaiya is eager to learn and excited to communicate everything she is working on during our connection meetings. She is a wonderful all-around scholar and does a great job leading by example for her younger sisters.”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Amaya T. of Dillon Beach

“Amaya is extremely talented and creative,” shares Stephanie Strosky, Educational Facilitator. “She writes beautiful essays and poetry. She is eager to learn and always has such great facts to share with me. She is a wonderful girl who is continuing to grow in all areas.”
