Compass Charter Schools (CCS) Names their December Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – CCS is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the CCS core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement, and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Madison W., of Long Beach

Madison strives to do her best in her online courses,” said Joyce Popelar, online elementary teacher. “Madison and her learning coach always communicate with me. Madison is hard-working, exceeds in all subjects and demonstrates the core values of our ARTIC expectations.”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Avery S., of Los Angeles

Avery is an overachiever! He always tries hard to do his work to perfection,” said Carrie Talcott, online middle school teacher. “He is not satisfied until he has accomplished his goal of all A’s in his classes. He is also actively involved in learning labs. He is kind, honest, and overall a pleasure to have in class.

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Angeli P., of Canyon Country

“Angeli’s dedication to her science labs has reflected our core values,” shared David Spink, online high school teacher. “Angeli is achieving high academic marks. She regularly attends and participates in learning labs. Angeli provides thoughtful insights and shows strong critical thinking skills. She is able to successfully carry out the scientific process as demonstrated in the labs she’s completed.” 

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Gloria B., of Long Beach

Gloria is extremely creative, expressing her passion in photography, drawing, and videos too,” shared Sharlie Walker, educational facilitator. “She uses SeeSaw to share her original ideas on her adventures – from camping to museums to local attractions. Gloria works with her classmates to create amazing projects; they also encourage one another to do challenging things, like speaking in public.”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Federico H., of Los Angeles

Federico is a strong, independent learner and when he decides to do something, he does it brilliantly,” shared Stephanie Lee, educational facilitator. “He is bilingual and able to produce grade-level work in both English and Spanish. He is mature and a natural leader among peers. He recently performed in a Peace & Human Rights show. I know he will continue throughout his life to work to make the world a better place.

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Andrew T., of Alta Loma

Andrew is doing amazing things. I have witnessed him jump ahead by leaps and bounds in the work he is doing,” shared Karle Roberts, educational facilitator. “His math skills have improved so much and the powerpoints he turns in really show his growth. Though not everything comes easy to him, he works outside the box and is proving what a bright young man he is.”

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Kayla J., of Fallbrook

Kayla is doing wonderfully this school year and it has been a pleasure to have her in class,” said Michelle Fullerton, online elementary teacher. She is on track in all of her courses and she actively attends all learning labs. Keep up the great work! 

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Samantha O., of Descanso

I am nominating Samantha because she does an excellent job of communicating and advocating for herself,” shared Terasa McGuire, online middle school teacher. “There was some confusion in communication and she remained calm and kept trying (persevered) until I understood what the problem was. I was very proud.”

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Alejandra L, of Chula Vista

Ms. Davis, online high school teacher shared, “Alejandra is a diligent student. She stays on pace with her school work and is excelling on all of her courses. She reaches out when she needs clarification. Alejandra is a model student who puts forth effort and time to ensure she is successful”. ” 

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Justin S., of Fullerton

Justin is an exceptional scholar. He submits his work, and other required assignments, on time and with high quality,” shared Karle Roberts, educational facilitator. “He works with me, his EF, his mom, and others who support his education to make sure that everything is organized and done well. Justin is also an athlete and being a team player is something he does very well.

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Elliott S., of San Diego

Elliott has demonstrated a love of learning by maintaining a high level of quality work,” shared Ruth Chavez-Rivera, educational facilitator. “He has provided thoughtful essays that show he is a compassionate student and thinks of others.

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Aaron M., of San Ysidro

Aaron has been such a pleasure to work with and always willing to do what is needed to ensure his academic success,” shared Ruth Chavez-Rivera, educational facilitator.  “Aaron stays on top of his schoolwork and always goes above and beyond in his work samples.  He takes initiative and responsibility of his education. Awesome work Aaron! Keep it up!” 

Compass Charter Schools of Yolo (serving the counties of Yolo, Contra Costa, Colusa, Lake, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma, and Sutter):

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Jahve Hawkins., of Pittsburg

Jahve is committed to her studies”, said Ms. Janae Smith. “She is hardworking and has been able to juggle her high school courses plus three concurrent enrollment college courses. She works ahead in her English 12 honors course so she can balance it all. She demonstrates the CCS ARTIC value: Integrity, through her dedication to her education.

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Hannah P., of Napa

Hannah is a delightful scholar who works well independently, but also does a great job learning with others in groups she is involved with,” shared Karle Roberts, educational facilitator.  

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Anneliese Y., of Bay Point 

Anneliese is a kind, caring, cooperative scholar,” shared Michelle Vreeman, educational facilitator. “She is an integral part of her homeschool community. She works collaboratively with her younger sibling as well as with her peers.”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Noelle D., of Santa Rosa

Noelle has been taking a full course load, but still finds time to help her younger siblings with their work. She has an amazing and positive attitude, is excelling with her classes, and helps in any way she can. She is truly a pleasure to work with, and I’m excited to see what the rest of the year brings.”
