I am proud to be part of the Scholar Leadership Council because I enjoy helping the scholars at CCS in any that I can,” said Vania Linares, chair of the Scholar Leadership Council. “It’s been a great experience. As a group, we think of ways to help scholars and make progress at every meeting, which is very important. I truly enjoy meeting with members of the Scholar Leadership Council to talk through issues, ask questions, and share ideas and suggestions that can help our peers!”

The Scholar Leadership Council offers scholars in every grade the opportunity to serve as a leader among their peers. The council serves to provide scholar feedback on school policies and procedures to ensure that they are consistent with its mission, vision, and values. Council members act as a committed group of advisors to the staff and administration, regarding issues that affect their peer scholars. They provide feedback and insight from the scholar’s perspective on school process, policies and initiatives to ensure that the needs of scholars are included as decisions are made.

I decided to join the Scholar Leadership Council because I wanted to develop leadership skills and have a positive impact on the CCS community,” said Maryam Zorba, vice chair of the Scholar Leadership Council. “I will continue to contribute by sharing my ideas and feedback and suggesting solutions for potential problems. I really enjoy being part of the Scholar Leadership Council because it gives me a sense of responsibility and makes me feel connected to my academic community.”

CCS is a virtual independent study charter school serving grades TK-12 with a scholar enrollment of over 1,000. In 2012, CCS began with a small team of educators in Southern California committed to providing a safe, family-centered alternative to the traditional brick and mortar school for scholars throughout the state. While CCS has evolved over the years, the desire to provide excellent educational options has remained strong with our online and homeschool programs. Over the past five years, we have educated the highly gifted, the bullied, the athlete, the actor, the academically-challenged, the chronically ill, and many other scholars who sought a personalized educational experience outside traditional classroom walls.

“The Scholar Leadership Council is an essential part of our scholars’ overall experience at CCS,” shared J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO. “The council members demonstrate great leadership skills by voicing the needs of their peers and offering suggestions to solve problems and improve the experience for our scholars. I know that our entire Compass community is so grateful for their hard work, passion, and dedication to making CCS a great school of choice for scholars!
