The awards were for the “April-May Blog Series – Support During the Covid-19 Pandemic” and the “May 2020 Compass Charter Schools’ Above and Beyond Campaign.” Compass is the Gold Standard in Virtual Education, and these awards illuminate our teachers’ and staffs’ expertise and support for families during these difficult times.

The April-May Blog Series – Support During the Covid-19 Pandemic Campaign was developed to help parents and scholars outside of Compass struggling with virtual schooling during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kimberly Aguilar, Community Relations Coordinator, created weekly blogs to help support families navigating through virtual education for the first time. She interviewed Compass teachers and staff to write the blogs: Compass Charter Schools (CCS) Recommendations for Doing It All From Home, A Word From Our Superintendent & CEO: Be a Beacon of Light, 5 Tips on Balancing Working and Teaching From Home, and Compass Charter Schools Advice and Activities for Coping During Challenging Times. The May 2020 Compass Charter Schools’ Above and Beyond Campaign highlights, all Compass has to offer. The first week of May 2020 was National Charter School Week, and the theme was ‘Above and Beyond.’ Aguilar used the theme to write the blogs entitled: What Sets CCS Options Program Above and Beyond?, What Sets CCS Online Program Above and Beyond?, CCS Counselors Soar Above and Beyond!, CCS Special Education Department Empower our Above and Beyond Scholars!, and CCS Engagement is Above and Beyond! Aguilar shares, “It was such a joy and privilege to write these blogs and highlight the incredible work that Compass accomplishes every day! Thank you, CalSPRA, for acknowledging all the hard work and dedication that Compass teachers and staff provide as the gold standard in virtual education!”

Aguilar engaged in extensive research throughout the Compass community and all departments, including engagement, special education, English language support, tutoring, and counseling, to write these blogs. She interviewed teachers and staff to find ways to support scholars and families during this time of need, learning virtually for the first time. She also researched Compass’s history to see how we have grown and helped overcome learning obstacles at home.

“We work very hard, each and every day, to provide the highest standards of virtual learning to every Compass scholar,” shares J.J. Lewis, Compass Superintendent & CEO. “On behalf of our entire Compass community, we are honored to be recognized by CalSPRA for our work which showcased not only our Compass Experience but provided support to our peers as they adjusted to virtual learning, some for the first time, due to the global pandemic. We continue to be Loud and Proud about our work and are continue to be available to partner with anyone who wishes to learn more about this virtual learning space.”
