A Word From Our Superintendent & CEO: Bring on the Sunshine!

By April 7, 2021 May 26th, 2021 A Word From Our CEO, Blog

Welcome, April!

The month of April is an excellent metaphor for the last year and a half of dealing with the global COVID-19 pandemic. There have been many showers, but at Compass, we always focus on the sunshine ahead. We have had an incredible year of adapting to change and thriving with our virtual field trips, counseling learning labs, clubs, and more! I feel tremendously honored that Compass has served as a leader in virtual and personalized education and that we have been able to stay on course and excel during this stressful time in history. Our scholars and staff are incredible and continue to impress me each and every day!

We invite you to engage in your Compass Family by checking out all our blogs, news stories, and the latest Spring edition of The Compass Chronicle eNewsletter! Be loud and proud about your Compass Experience and set goals for yourself as you finish the school year strong!

This month we celebrate National Autism Awareness Month. I want to take a moment to highlight our incredible Special Education Department and all that they do. We prioritize serving all of our scholars’ needs and helping them reach their greatest potential. Compass provides support services in a virtual environment for scholars with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). For scholars in need of Specialized Academic Instruction, Compass’ Educational Specialists provide these services in a virtual format. Specialized contractors provide IEP services for speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and psychological services to provide assessment and therapy services. It is incredible all the work that the Special Education Department does each and every day to support our scholars!

I also want to extend a thank you and some good luck to all of our Compass scholars participating in state testing over the next two weeks. Your participation is so essential. It allows us to explore academic areas that need strengthening and measure our success in providing scholars with the best possible instruction, guidance, and support. Best of luck, Compass scholars, take care of yourself, relax, prepare, and be confident that you got this!

As a proud member of The Energy Bus, we invite everyone to continue to find the positive in each day and fuel your ride and the riders around you. I would love for you to share your experiences on the Energy Bus! Share what you’re doing to have fun and enjoy your ride on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram and how you have influenced those around you too!

I end on this quote by Rachel Barcellona, Autism advocate, model, author, singer, actress, and pageant winner, “Everyone has a mountain to climb, and autism has not been my mountain, it has been my opportunity for victory.”
