Welcome back Compass family and happy 2020! It is the beginning of a new year and a new decade, but more importantly, a fresh start for setting even bigger goals to promote personal growth that can last a lifetime.
2019 was an incredible year at CCS. I am proud to see our Compass family continue to grow and our scholars, learning coaches, and staff continue to thrive. In the past year, we focused our growth on implementing more tools and resources than ever before to uphold and strengthen the CCS learning environment so that our scholars can feel empowered to be innovative, creative, self-directed learners regardless of their learning style.
Semester 2 is quickly approaching and will begin on Monday, February 3, 2020! I encourage you to consider the first half of your school year and determine what strategies have helped guide you toward success and what strategies can help you to improve the areas that have been a bit more difficult. New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be impossible to keep! For assistance in creating an easy-to-follow action plan, check out our Virtual Scholar Workshop on goal setting. Our staff is ready to support all of our scholars in creating action plans to achieve those goals and to succeed in their academics and other aspirations. I am looking forward to seeing how you choose to grow in 2020.
Moving forward through January, I’d like to shift focus to our final core value: communication. Communication is the root of our relationships and the ways in which we speak (verbally and nonverbally), write, and even choose to pass on information. It is very important in keeping yourself and those around you positive.
Personally, I strive to communicate frequently and openly. I aim to set an example for others by being accessible to our staff and families, and sincerely listening to and understanding their insights. I stick to a positive outlook at all times and strive to be both accountable and transparent to all of our stakeholders. There are many resources available to our stakeholders to receive important, honest, and direct communication from me, including our quarterly Parent Town Hall meetings, monthly Scholar Leadership Council and Staff Advisory Committee meetings, as well as our bi-monthly Parent Advisory Council meetings and quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
We’re encouraging scholars, learning coaches and staff to share what communication means to them and why it’s important. How will you carry communication with you into the new year? Let us know here!
As shared by T.S Elliot, “For last year’s words belong to last year’s language, and next year’s words await another voice.” I wish you continued success and growth in 2020, and I look forward to seeing how you write your own next chapter. Happy New Year!
