Compass Charter Schools provides the highest quality of English Learner Support Services.

English Learners (ELs) are scholars who are developing their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English. The EL population is made up of scholars with varying degrees of exposure to English and levels of competencies in their first language. Regardless of language literacy background, ELs must acquire fundamental reading, academic language, and conversational skills in English in order to be successful in their academics.

At CCS, our EL Coordinator works closely with our teachers to ensure the academic curriculum is accessible to scholars to meet grade-level standards and gain English language proficiency. In addition, scholars are provided with designated English Language Development (ELD) instruction utilizing the Lexia Learning curricula, as well as small group instruction through virtual support sessions.

Lexia

Lexia’s curriculum solutions specifically target skills that help English learners develop fundamental skills while providing educators and learning coaches with real-time performance data that pinpoints scholars skill gaps to strengthen interventions.

Lexia Core5 Reading (K-5) and Lexia PowerUp Literacy (6-12) online curricula offer personalized learning that supports English Learners in acquiring fundamental reading, academic language, and conversation skills in English in order to be successful in the academic environment.

Virtual Support Sessions

Compass Charter Schools values each individual scholar. ELs receive live virtual support sessions to help differentiate instruction to meet the needs of scholars who may be at different language proficiency levels.
