MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT & CEO LIZ BRENNER:

Dear Compass families,

Thank you to all of you who attended our community park day on Friday. We had an amazing time connecting with our families and engaging in fun activities. We will be sure to continue to offer opportunities like these to build community.

Last week, we had our final Scholar Leadership Council Meeting and our final Parent Advisory Council meeting. A huge thank you to Samantha Herrod for being the chair of the PAC for the last five years. Her son is graduating, so we will be looking for a new chair next year. If you are interested in learning more about joining the PAC, please complete this form.

As we enter the last few weeks of school, I look forward to celebrating with you at our promotion and graduation ceremonies.

Kind regards,

Elizabeth Brenner

Superintendent & CEO

ASSESSMENTS

  • STAR end-of-year assessments: We are beginning to administer STAR Early Literacy, Math, and/or Reading to all scholars in proctored test sessions. To truly assess learning and growth, Compass needs to determine what scholars know throughout the school year. These frequent opportunities for scholars to show what they know allows them to demonstrate their knowledge without having to study and helps Compass track scholar progress and growth.
  • ELPAC score reports are starting to become available. English Learners took the Summative ELPAC to measure how well they are learning the English language. Scholars who speak multiple languages have many strengths, but they may also need extra support in the classroom while learning in English. Your scholar’s score report is broken down into different skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. You can use this information to identify where your child is doing well and where they may need more support. Parents can view the score reports by checking the parent portal in School Pathways. Scholars with an Overall score of 4 will be reviewed for eligibility for Reclassification. Scholars must meet ALL criteria to be eligible for Reclassification and parents are invited to a consultation as a final step. Please read the Parents Guide to Understanding (Spanish) to learn more about the ELPAC score reports. Also visit Starting Smarter to learn more about test results, view sample test questions, access free resources to support your scholar's learning, and find guides. If you have any questions, please contact your Supervising Teacher.
  • CAASPP score reports are starting to become available. Parents can find these reports in the Parent Portal in School Pathways. These reports include ELA, Math, and CAST (CA Science Test). If results aren’t available today, please keep checking back, as the scores will continually load over the next couple of weeks. Scholars who took the CA Alternate Assessments (CAA) will have results available in early September 2026.
