At Compass Charter Schools, our primary commitment is to the academic success and growth of every scholar. Staff proactively monitor progress, review data, and identify scholars who may benefit from timely, targeted support.
WHAT IS SCHOLAR SUPPORT?
A proactive process for identifying needs and supporting progress.
Our dedicated staff proactively monitors student progress by analyzing work samples and diagnostic assessment data. This continuous evaluation enables us to identify scholars who may require additional academic support, allowing us to implement timely, targeted interventions.

When additional support is needed
Should scholars continue to face challenges despite initial supports, the Scholar Support Department conducts a comprehensive review to identify underlying factors that may be impacting access to the general education curriculum.
SECTION 504 PLANS
Safeguarding access and supporting FAPE.
Section 504 Plans are designed to safeguard qualified individuals against discrimination and ensure that scholars with disabilities receive a Free Appropriate Public Education, or FAPE.

As a virtual public charter school, Compass Section 504 Plans are tailored to our specific educational environment, focusing on inclusive curriculum, programs, and activities.

Curriculum
Compass implements necessary adjustments to instructional delivery to ensure that students with disabilities have equitable access to the general education curriculum.
Programs and Activities
Compass ensures that students with disabilities are afforded equal opportunities to participate in and benefit from all programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
Eligibility
Eligibility for a Section 504 Plan is contingent upon a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Caring for oneself or performing manual tasks
- Walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, or breathing
- Learning, working, standing, lifting, thinking, or concentrating
- Interacting with others, sleeping, bending, communicating, reading, or writing
ANNUAL REVIEW
Section 504 Plans are reviewed annually.
Section 504 Plans undergo an annual review to confirm that the implemented accommodations remain effective in facilitating the scholar’s access to the general education curriculum.

SCHOLAR STUDY TEAM
A collaborative process for targeted support.
During the discovery process, the Scholar Support Department evaluates comprehensive data from diverse sources to ensure a targeted and effective approach.
Data Sources
Information may include input from Learning Coaches, Supervising Teachers, WIT meetings, student work samples, and diagnostic assessments.
Team Selection
Evidence informs the selection of the appropriate Scholar Study Team members.
Action Plan
During the meeting, the team analyzes findings to collaborate on tailored interventions, accommodations, and a formal action plan.
REVIEW TIMELINE
The team reconvenes within four to six weeks.
In accordance with El Dorado Charter SELPA guidelines, the team reconvenes within four to six weeks to review the action plan’s progress.
