MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT & CEO LIZ BRENNER:

Dear Compass families,

Thank You for Supporting Our Beginning-of-Year Assessments!
Thank you to all of our families and scholars for participating in our beginning-of-the-year assessments! We know assessments are just one part of the learning journey, but they give our teachers, scholars, and Learning Coaches valuable information about how each scholar is progressing, where they are thriving, and where they may benefit from additional support.

These results are also an important part of telling the story of Compass Charter Schools. This year, both our Los Angeles and Yolo charters are up for renewal. We will submit our renewal petitions in October and November, with decision hearings taking place in January. Assessment data helps us demonstrate our scholars’ academic growth and gives our authorizers information that can be compared with other schools and with statewide results.

Of course, a test score is only one piece of the puzzle! We know our scholars are learning and growing every day through their individual curriculum, enrichment classes, synchronous instruction, projects, activities, and the many experiences that make their education uniquely their own.

Together, all of these pieces help us see the full picture of each scholar’s growth—and that is the story we are proud to share. Thank you for partnering with us and supporting your scholar throughout the year!

Kind regards,
Elizabeth Brenner
Superintendent & CEO

ASSESSMENTS

Continuing our series on the California School Dashboard (Dashboard), this week we discuss How Colors are Determined on the Dashboard. Performance is based on two factors:
• Current year data for the measure (Status)
• Difference between current year and prior year data (Change)
The Dashboard identifies performance gaps among student groups through its Equity Report, which is available for each state measure.

Translated flyers are available on the Translations Tab of the Dashboard Resources web page.
